Ask Bret! Natural Product Expo 2012

Posted on

Yellow 108 exhibited for the first time this year at Natural Products Expo West, the world’s largest natural products expo. We were quite the talk of the natural living section. Between the craziness of manning the booth and meeting with clients, we got a chance to explore the show and find out what is new and exciting in the natural products world.

MY TOP PICKS

New Guayaki Sparkling Yerba Mate- Grapefruit Ginger

Organic, Stevia & Agave Sweetened Sparkling Yerba Mate! 45 Calories! Bubbling with sweet, tart, exotic surprise, Sparkling Grapefruit Ginger is the latest small miracle to flow from the yerba mate tree

Hydro Coco by Big Tree farms

Big Tree has revolutionized the coconut water market with this amazing product. Instead of shipping coconut water in cans and packages half way around the world, they evaporate out the liquid leaving only the solid electrolytes. This not only cuts down on co2 emissions from shipping, the water also hasn’t sat in cans or plastic for months in transit. I really like how versatile this product can be, throw some in your bike water bottle or take some on a backpacking trip, just add water from where ever you are.

New gluten free product – Bold Organics Pizza

As far as frozen pizzas go, especially gluten free and dairy free ones, these are fantastic. Loaded with veggies or meat, you can go wrong. I don’t know if I like their masculine advertising campaign, but they do know how to make a darn good pizza.

Best Snack Food – Beanitos Chips

Beanitos are definitely not your average chips, high in protein and fiber, these chips are primarily  made out of beans. There is a laundry list of what beanitos chips are free of, corn free, soy free,  and gluten free, just to name a few. Nutritionally these chips stand out from the masses of junk  food snacks on the market. Did I mention that they have a low glycemic index and are a complete  protein? O yeah, they taste great too.

New Vegan Product – Daiya Wedge Cheese

For the last few years Daiya has been one of leading vegan cheeses on the market. This cassava-based  cheese that fully melts was formally only available in shreds, now it’s also in a wedge form that comes in 3  styles (jack, cheddar, and havarti).

Last, but not least we wanted to give props to the people at Clif Bar for throwing an awesome after party on saturday night. Live music by an all Clif Bar employee band kept us dancing all night. We never went thirsty with an endless supply of Clif Family wine and New Belgium Fat Tire beer, plus it was all served up in reusable Klean Kanteen Steel Pint Cups, which drastically cut down on the waste associated with disposable cups!
