Yellow 108 @ Funk Fest Long Beach!
As if Long Beach wasn’t already funky enough, join us Saturday (August 20th) the Long Beach Funk Fest! This will be the 3rd annual LB Funk Fest, and sure to be the best so far. The event prides its self on being a true funk fest; no jazz funk or funk rock, just real deal funk from today and back in the day. This year’s line up features local bands like Delta Nove, as well as big name headliners such as funk legend Fred Wesley and funk super group Big Ol Nasty Get Down (featuring member of Parliament and 10 other bands). There will be two stages, one on Pine and the other on the Promenade, so the funk wont stop.
The Long Beach Funk Fest is dedicated to making the event as green and sustainable as possible, hence the slogan “Sustaining our future through funk”. The majority of venders at the fest are local green businesses and organizations, that’s where Yellow 108 comes into the mix. For the first time this year Beachwood BBQ Brewing will be running a beer garden featuring their local brews made right on the promenade. The LB Funk Fest is part of the SAM(Summer and Music) series in Downtown LB. Funk Fest as well as all other SAM events are solar powered, thats right both the sound and lights are powered by the sun. SAM’s 2011 statement is “Music for the people. Revives ears. Works with the planet.”
All of this funky fun is FREE and open to all ages. Parking will be crazy, if your coming from out of the area we recommend taking the Metro Blue Line, which has several stops with in one block of the event. Bring the whole Family for a fun filled day of funk, there will tons of art and activities, and the Kid’s Zone of Funkativity for the little ones. The whole fest goes from 1-11pm and spans the area of Pine and the Promenade between Broadway and 3rd st.
